Abstract

The interaction of molecular hydrogen with the surface of WO3-ZrO2 to generate protonic acid sites was observed using ESR Spectroscopy
and lutidine pre-adsorbed FTIR Spectroscopy. The WO3-ZrO2 sample was characterized by BET and XRD technique. The surface area of
WO3-ZrO2 was 49 m2/g, with pore distribution of mesoporous solid and the content of WO3 on ZrO2 was 15 wt %. Lutidine pre-adsorbed
FTIR showed the presence of protonic acid sites 1644cm-1 and 1632cm-1. For ESR spectroscopy, a decrease in the ESR signals at g=1.98
upon heating with alkane and in the UV irradiation suggested the formation of electrons that have been trapped by the electron deficient
metal cationand radicals.
